How to choose a hoop for rhythmic gymnastics

Hoop is one of the essential apparatuses that will be required in rhythmic gymnastics.  They are usually white or transcluscent in colour and are taped with colourful adhesive tapes for enhanced visisual performances. If you have a particular design for the hoop that you would like, Gymnamo offers a customisation service for hoops. The two main brands for the hoops that you will find in our store are Pastorelli and Venturelli - both are well known Italian manufacturers.

To choose the correct hoop size, measure the distance from the floor to the hip bone, as shown in the photo below.

For the best advice and recommendation, please ask your child's coach.

Another consideration is to look out for FIG approved vs non FIG approved hoops.  (FIG stands for Federation for International Gymnastics). Hoops 60-70 cm are for young children and do not come with FIG sign.  Hoops from 75 cm come either FIG approved or non FIG approved.  When decorating and taping hoops, FIG logo must always be visible and not taped over.  FIG approved apparatus is required for official FIG competitions and currently in British Champtionships for gymnasts who have achieved Level 5. For other competitions you can check with the competition organiser about specific requirements.
