The bands should not be used excessively, a sensible approach should be used just like with any other equipment/exercise according to the appropriate age and level. The stretch should be gentle, spread over a wide area on the front of the foot. If any pain, cramping, compression in the back of the ankle, or any other strong discomfort is felt, discontinue usage. Children should use the bands at the discretion and under supervision of a responsible adult.
